Your question requires more to understanding what you are trying to accomplish with your inventory, since resetting your inventory quantity is not normal and does affect other aspects of your program. I would recommend working with a support analyst to discuss your issue and what are the best options for your company.

We want to clean up the inventory, deleting obsolete parts (rolls) since we've been using Sage BW for decades. Some of the roll goods that are in the system always have an on-hand balance because we don't sell the rolls; a portion of the roll goods are used in manufacturing to make another product. The on-hand balance isn't accurate any way and the on-hand balance is not utilized.

Wouldn't a Physical Inventory do the zeroing out that you are looking for and "keep" the books correct (providing a variance report)
OK so there are a couple of ways to do it - I would use the Physical Inventory process. You can get this information in the inventory module. Print out the physical inventory sheets - Yes you have to Print them - You can print to PDF but you have to print for the system to work properly. Make sure no one is doing anything in the BW software. When you use the Physical process - use the ACTUAL option as this will allow you to just type ZERO in the Quantity field. Accept - If the ROLLS are in a specific Product Line - You could just do that Product Line - Print it and do the adjustments. I would try this first as is the BEST option. Let me know what you decide.

Vince- it would update your quantity for the part, but - as in all transactions - it will also post to your general ledger. So you would want to review your general ledger after your postings and make any necessary adjustments if needed.

If there are on hand quantities in a part - the system shouldn't DELETE them. If you go in and clear the on hand quantity to zero that acts as a new event in the part and the history DATE starts all over again. You can make the part INACTIVE and rename so that it doesn't come up in a lookup etc. but that would be it.
