Error printing checks via remote desktop. Error "EAccessViolation"

SUGGESTED

We just recently upgrade our servers and are running BW2011. When I try to print checks to my home printer via remote desktop, I receive the error code "EAccessViolation". When I switch by to my windows 7 computer and do the exact same steps, it prints just fine. It just seems to be an issue on Windows 10.

Has anyone experienced this and/or a solution to try?

Your finding the problems of not upgrading on a quicker schedule.  Sage will tell you that Win 7 is no longer supported and so is the version of BW (2011)

The error maybe related to different versions of RDP (remote desktop program) being used (Win7/Win10) or the printer driver in Win10 for your printer.

Can you print locally to PDF in RDP / Win10 (save the file to your desktop? and then print the PDF to your printer? (possible work around)

BTW, if you just upgraded the server, what Operating system is it ?

As Vince stated, there are limitations in troubleshooting an unsupported version (v2011) as well as environment (W10) for that version.  W10 was never tested in V2011 and is not supported.

With that said, your issues may relate with your printer or print driver.  If you go to our Knowledge Base at SageKB.com you can search on the Knowledge Base articles below that maybe able to offer some suggestions for your printing issues.

How to print to a local printer from Terminal Services (23571)

    Q1: What Windows server version? 2003,2008,20012, 2016, 2019 ?

Q2: Have you tried the PDF printer driver if your server is 2016 or 2019? You print to a file and then move the file to your local PC via a shared drive

Q3: What is the make of the printer and model?

Q4: Can you print a word doc to the local printer in a session? on the Win10 PC  - in the 2003 ver of TS, the local printer had to be physically connect to the PC (ie no network printers)

Technically Sage's answer is right and wrong, The RD session runs at the server and is transmitted to the client (Windows,Linux,Android,iOS), it is the way the client RD software is setup for printing and what the server can support..  So in WIN10 sessions, the local PC may share to the server its printer via a auto discovered method. It may need need a driver install at the server.

Last Q5:  Are you using a VPN ?

Hi Vince, I just turned on notifications for the post as I figured they would be turned on.

The PDF workaround does work for printing checks. Saving it via PDF and then printing said pdf to my home printer works.

    New servers - 2019

    Printer is HP 5200

I can print everything perfectly via RD to my local printer except for checks. It’s the only one that throws the error.

haven’t tried printing via VPN because it’s too slow.  Living out in the country the speeds are very slow and VPN shows it.
