Inventory in a new company set up

SUGGESTED

Customer wants to set up a new company using the information from an existing company.

We have created a new company and are setting up the new company which is based on the information in the old company.

All modules, GL, AR, AP. OE, CM are set up as a new company.  All modules created and information set up.  Customer and vendor information from old company imported and all looks good.

We have created Inventory and are now ready to import the inventory data.  However, the owner wants to change the costs on old inventory items.

Is there a way to import cost only in the migration, or does it have to be manually input?

    Hi Phyllis B-

If you just created inventory you should be able to update the new cost on your import file.

When you created the Inventory module, it put that module in in setup mode. While in setup mode you can import the parts with the new unit costs. The On Hand Quantity and Unit Cost can be imported only if 1) IC is in SETUP mode, 2) the current On Hand Quantity is zero, and 3) there have been no transactions for the part. For importing parts see article #18720 How to import inventory parts.

If you are out of set up mode and already using the Inventory module, then the only way to update unit cost is manually – see article #18789 How to change the unit cost of a part.

Is there a way to import price levels?

    Phyllis B-

BusinessWorks does not allow importing of multiple price levels.  Those prices will have to be entered manually in Maintain Parts.
