To fix your side is a small task.

Backup your company

export your parts

edit the long descriptions (you can copy Description1) or even use CONCATENATE in excel to combine Desc 1 2 3 into the long desc
If you already have abbreviated words, used find and replace to correct

then import the parts back into BW

Edit your invoice/SO/Quote/packing list form(s) to use the long description instead of the Descriptions (123)
it is best to open your current forms but SAVE AS a different form name (never destroy work)

Test the form(s)

I've done this for a project where a client needed 32 character part numbers on the invoice/packing lists/SO/Quotes
and we faked it in BW.

HA, that is what I was afraid of. If only they would open the code up and let us play around inside, it should be so simple to change the value from 20 or so characters to 30. Oh well, another workaround it is...

Your suggestion is basically what I did, but there are so many places that use the first line of the description- like the Invoice Detail Report, Order selection report...Having multiple lines in the description tends to clog up the screen on these reports, so I woud like to use only the long description block everywhere, but not sure I have the option. 

Is there a why to edit the default reports- like the IDR?

 "old" reports especially GL and Parts , only use 12 digit Part numbers and truncate descriptions

I've made a few requests over the years and none that I know have ever been incorporated

Mainly in the address fields , to match UPS and Fedex , a Country field

Much of the Invoice detail report can be reproduced using exports or the "newer" reports , it just takes the effort

Vince's suggest below is going to be your best option due to the limitations on how many characters are allow for the BusinessWorks fields.  We do encourage customers to write [email protected] for any enhancements requests for the program.  The more requests they get for an item, the greater the chance to have it programmed in a future release.
