Current Accounting Period

I've found how to get a list of the Accounting Periods through the SDK. Is there a place to find the current period so I'm not entering or updating records from an accounting period that has already been reconciled?

This is the code I've been using to try and figure out how this collection works.

Dim myAcctPeriods As AccountingPeriodCollection = PTCompany.Defaults.GeneralLedger.AccountingPeriods
Dim myAcctPeriod As AccountingPeriod = Nothing
myAcctPeriod = PTCompany.Defaults.GeneralLedger.AccountingPeriods(1)
SendMessage(GetExecutingName, "Debug", "myAcctPeriod: " & myAcctPeriod.From)
