I am having trouble writing payroll checks for January.  Every time I open Sage 50, it asks if I want to download the new program.  I have already done this several times.  I also keep getting a message that the TAXTABLE.DAT is missing or corrupt.

There is a TAXTABLE.DAT file in both the shared Sage 50 Company directory, as well as within your specific data directory. To find out which one is having the problem, open one of the sample companies that come with Sage 50, and attempt to write a Payroll Check. If you do not receive an error, then the problem is with the TAXTABLE.DAT file within your specific data directory. That TAXTABLE.DAT file contains User Maintained Payroll Formulas, which are specific for your company. You can always copy this file from a previous back, when the error did not exist. You will need to rename an older backup to a ZIP extension, and then unzip the backup into a separate folder, away from your current Sage 50 data files. Once the files have unzipped, you can copy the TAXTABLE.DAT file from your backup on top of your live data file. If the error with the TAXTABLE.DAT file appears in the sample company, then the problem exists with the shared Company TAXTABLE.DAT file, which is the file where Sage Maintained Payroll Formulas appear. That file is updated with the installation of Tax Updates. You can rename that file, and then reinstall the Tax Update to reload it.
