You need to restore your regular backup (not an archived company) -- it required you to make one during the YE process.

The backup I did when I closed the fiscal year is identified as an Archive file. Should there be a normal backup somewhere also?

Yes. It should not let you close the year if you did not do one. It may be in your company data folder or in the last place you did a backup before doing a closing. It should have a date and time from when you did the closing. The backups have an extension ".ptb".

I may be too late in answering this but if you have not restored a backup (non-archived) then I would restore that 2021-22 backup to a NEW company rather than restoring over my current live company.  This way you can open both companies side by side making it easier to rekey your data. Also you can export the current data from the 2023 company and import it into your restored 2022 company.
