How can I restore a Company Archive file to be used as a live company file?

Is there a way to restore an Archive file and set it up as a new company file?   Our original backup file was corrupted.

Thank you.

    The official answer is no.

But your question made me curious and I started experimenting a little bit. I was able to get an archive of the sample company to open as a regular company. But this is completely untested and unsupported. I entered a couple of transactions and it seemed to work, but I have done no other testing and have no idea what the long term repercussions might be. It also depends on you having an undamaged copy of the company.dat file. Use this procedure only if you have no other options.

Let's assume that your data path is C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company and that your company is stored in a folder named Rusty.

In File Explorer, browse to C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company. Create a new folder for your new company. Lets just call it NEWCOMP for this example.

Next browse to the Rusty folder. Inside of it you'll find a folder named Archives. Inside of it will be a folder for each archive you have created. Open the newest one. Copy everything from that folder to the NEWCOMP folder.

In the NEWCOMP folder rename Company.dat and Company.old.

Go back to the Rusty folder, copy Company.dat and paste it into NEWCOMP.

Now you should be able to open the company in NEWCOMP like a normal company. For this to work, obviously the company.dat file needs to be undamaged. If the copy from the Rusty folder doesn't work, and you have a PTB file backup, rename the file and change the extension to .ZIP. Then you can open the compressed file and copy just Company.dat file from it and paste it into Rusty to see if it will work.

Speaking of backup files, what do you mean when you say the original backup file was corrupted? Will it not restore, or does it restore but the resulting company is damaged? If the backup file won't restore, try renaming it as .ZIP. Then open the Zip file and copy everything from it to a new folder in C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company.
