Cannot locate JRNLHDR.dat?

SOLVED

I have a company located in a network drive K:\Company\hhm and this is the directory I use to open it in peachtree. Now, when I'm trying to check print I receive an error saying it cannot open K:\Forms\JRNLHDR.dat. I'm quite new to peachtree but I understand that the problem has something to do with the data path, for some reason the file is mapped outside the company folder itself? I have located the file in K:\Company\hhm but I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Wow,  Who was messing in you Sage 50 files?  Please tell them to stop!

Journal Headers don't belong in the forms folder.  I would suggest calling Sage and have them help you move your file back to where it belongs. Sage phone # 866-747-3888

You should check your computer for viruses/malware. Error messages from Sage that say it is looking for a file in the wrong location can be a symptom of an infection.

I agree it doesn't belong in the forms folder, more over outside the company folder itself, but I'm not sure what you mean by moving the file where it belongs. I think it is where it's supposed to be, but sage is looking for it in the wrong place.

I did a full scan of the pc, no virus or malware was detected.

I had a virus and my scan did not detect it either.  You may try  Norton Power Eraser.

MalwareBytes is also a very good option for cleaning up things that slip past anti-virus.

Thank you for your suggestions. Though is it possible that it's just a settings error with a little troubleshooting can be fixed? It is quite hard for me to acquire anti virus software like that at an urgent pace.

I think Norton Power Eraser is a free download and you can use a free trial of MalwareBytes to do a one time cleanup.

You said that your company files are located in K:\Company\hhm. So go to the File menu and choose Open Company. Look in the Directories section of the Open Company window. "K:\ " should show as an open folder. "Company" should also show as an open folder. "hhm" and any other folders that you can see should be closed. If that describes what you see, then the data path is set correctly in your INI file.

You should also try opening one of the sample companies, such as Bellwether Garden Supply, and try to print a check, or anything else that gives an error in your company. If you get the same error, then the problem is very likely virus related. If you don't get the error then the problem could be related to a damaged file in your company. In that case you can try following these steps from the knowledgebase.

Upon further examination, I have found out that the error does not persist in the server pc where the data is located, just computers trying to access it through a mapped drive. Also the administrator account receives no problems whatsoever on any computer as I've tested. The problem still persists but I think it is safe to say my files are fine and there is no virus.

It sounds like perhaps your data path on the machine receiving the error may be pointing to the wrong place. This article in the Sage Knowledgebase will provide you instructions on checking your datapath. In your case, it sounds like the datapath should be K:\ Company and may be pointing to K:\Forms. If the datapath is pointing correctly, when you get to the Open Company screen, I would suggest selecting Browse instead of selecting the company that is displayed so that you can find the copy that is in the correct location.
