Back Up on Server vs Workstation

We back up on a flashdrive every night on the computer that is the server.  Can we back up from any workstation or do we have to back up from the server?

Thanks

You can backup from either the server or the workstation, however the performance of the backup will be much better (take less time) from the server.

Keep in mind you can also setup automatic backups to take place every night. This way backups happen without anyone having to manually do the back each day. Also, if you have a Microsoft Office 365 account, those automatic backups could go to the cloud for even another layer of protection.

To add to the good advice that Chris already gave you, some people have experienced problems with backups that are made directly to a flash drive. Usually it works fine, but if you're depending on this for your backup I would recommend backing up to your hard drive first and then copying it to the flash drive.

I'm also a big advocate of online backups. They provide an extremely cost effective (usually less than $10/month) way to get an automatic offsite backup. Whether you use an Office 365 account as Chris suggested, or a traditional online backup service such as Ibackup , Idrive, Carbonite, etc. you'll have much better protection because everything will be automated. Set up Sage 50's automatic backup scheduler, then set up your online backup to include your regular Sage 50 data and the backup folder. All you have to do is periodically check to make sure everything is still working.

One of my customers recently had a break-in and their computer was stolen. If they hadn't had an off-site backup they would have been in serious trouble.
