Sage 500 ERP 2013 Client replacement?

SUGGESTED

Hello,

I was recently tasked with upgrading Sage Fixed Assets from 2018.1 to 2020.1.  The issue is 2018.1 was running on Windows 2K8 and 2020.1 doesn't support 2K8.  We got everything backed up Database wise and moved over to the new environment.  I learned today that the old server also had Sage 500 ERP 2013 Client installed and they are somehow connected.  Is there a new version of this client I should be using with Sage FAS 2020.1?  If so, is there somewhere I can get it?  Thanks for listening!

There are several versions of Sage 500 ERP available after version 2013: 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.  Early next year there is likely 2021.  As with Sage Fixed assets, the latest versions of Sage 500 ERP also do not support Windows 2K8 nor SQL Server 2k8.

Versions 2013 to 2016 of Sage 500 ERP are currently not actively supported by Sage.  If you do not have a current maintenance plan with Sage for Sage 500 ERP, you will need to contact a Sage Partner.  This update path will take several steps with timing involved, and will involve both the client and the database side of Sage 500 ERP.  Ideally, you would upgrade to Sage 500 ERP 2019 using SQL Server 2012 or greater AND Windows 2012 or greater.  The later the SQL Server and Windows Server the better to minimize future upgrading tasks.

As with some of the Microsoft products mentioned, you will not necessarily be able to directly go from Sage 500 ERP 2013 to Sage 500 ERP 2019, and will need at least one intermediary upgrade.   And, of course, any other products that are affected by a Windows Server or SQL Server upgrade would need to be dealt with too.  I suspect this is not a simple process, and contacting a Sage partner would be a good idea IMHO, preferably one that handles both Sage 500 ERP and Sage Fixed Assets and is familiar with compatibility between the two.

Thanks for the info.  Hopefully one last question.  Can the ERP Client be used to only interact with Sage Fixed Assets?  Can it perform an action for it or is the ERP Client always connected to the ERP Database?  Based on the screenshots I saw, it looks like they are in Sage Fixed Assets.  Can a new client just be loaded on the same server as FAS (Were using Citrix) and it hit the ERP Database or does every aspect of ERP need to be upgraded?  You have to excuse me if I really don't know much about the products.

I work on the Sage 500 ERP software and am not really familiar with SFA.  The Sage 500 ERP client must have a connection to the Sage 500 ERP database at all times.  Question, are you only using Sage 500 ERP to interact with SFA, and not using any of the Sage 500 ERP vast capabilities including the General Ledger?

I have no idea.  I'm a Systems Engineer and I wasn't around for the installation of all of the Sage products.  All I know is that we received a ticket to upgrade FAS.  Couldn't do it on the current OS so I had to stand up 3 new servers.  2 to house the FAS Application and 1 to house the SQL Database for FAS.  Everything went well with moving FAS over to the new setup but a few weeks later, this comes up.  I had no idea this client was involved at all.  But it seems like it is.  The client installed on the old setup is very old, 2013.  That's why I was wondering if I could just install a new client on the two servers.
