Multiple Companies

We have multiple companies and I would like to be able to visually see which company I am working in - does anyone know of a way to change the color of the screen or some other visual aid?

  • Use SM | Maintenance | Maintain Companies.  There is a frame called Company Color.  For each company that you want to have a different color, uncheck the Default checkbox and then click the ellipse button.  You will then be presented with a selection of colors and can also access custom colors if desired.  Select a color for that company.

You may need to restart the business desktop to see the changes.  Generally, the bottom toolbar of forms change to the background color selected for the company in some manner.  The results are not overpowering, but are different.  When selecting a color, be conscious of how the foreground text will appear on the newly selected background color.

    Some examples are shown below:

CAD company was changed to a different color:

So in this example, SOA company is light yellow and the CAD company is a light cyan.

I have an older version of Mas500 and Maintain Companies does not have the Color option.  It would be a great option if it was available.

    Thanks for you help!

It would appear that you are using a Sage 500 ERP version prior to 2016 (7.7) as that was the release the enhancement was added.  As it is a global type change, it likely cannot be added easily (I did not work on this one so am only assuming).  The latest 2021 (8.1) version has it though Slight smile

In days of yore, we used to take different approaches like using different SQL logins for different companies, restrict task permissions by company, change the menu and/or assign a different menu for the different company login. For example, Home would be changed to the company name or it would point to a different welcome file identifying the company. I think there was also a way to do that last one by company, but it's been a long time.
