How Does Car Maintenance Relate to Your ERP?

2 minute read time.

Remember when you bought your first new car? She was all shiny and new; and you took such good care of her. You took her in regularly for her oil changes and you rotated the tires. You made sure the brakes were in good shape and you got a tune-up even before it was due. You paid for the maintenance and upkeep because she was your baby. You gave her a bath every week whether she needed it or not because you just wanted her to look good.

As she got a little older, the auto parts people came out with new stuff to make her look and sound even better. So you saved up and put in that new AM/FM stereo system or the in-dash tape drive and the woofers that you just had to have so you could listen to your tunes as you cruised. Or if you were into the muscle, maybe it was those new tailpipes that were as loud as the law allowed. When her paint job started to fade a little, you waxed her up and put extra elbow grease into polishing the leather and the chrome. After all, she was still your baby and she ran like a top. Yeah, she was a dream for sure.

What does all that have to do with Sage 500 ERP? Well, let’s think about it for a minute. A few years back you made a major purchasing decision and bought this brand new ERP system. It had all these cool new features and you were simply amazed at what you could accomplish. You could accomplish more with less effort. Your business ran smoother and you were so excited!

Since then, you’ve been paying maintenance and support every year. You may have even had to do some minor maintenance and repair, or you may have done some customizations. But for the last several y ears you’ve not touched it maintenance-wise. There have been numerous improvements to the product. New features have been added. Processes have been improved. Even new options that could make some of the custom work unnecessary have been incorporated into the product. Yet, there your ERP sits--multiple versions behind. You are still working around the things you wish were different, some of which actually have been addressed in later versions. But there you are—stuck in yesterday.

Isn’t it time to consider an upgrade? Do you even know what you are missing? At this year’s Sage Summit conference in Washington, D.C. we have a session that talks about this very topic. One of your peers (Heritage Food Service Equipment) will be there to discuss their process and their experiences during an upgrade.
