UOM that are variable

We have been using an old piece of software that tracks rolls of paper for us.  We are planning to discontinue using that software and are exploring whether we could track the rolls in our inventory system.  The problem is that the PO would be issued for XX Qty rolls of paper for $xxx.xx per ton, but we would be storing the rolls by pounds, with each roll being a variable number of pounds.  For instance:  We order 17 rolls of paper weighing 12.899 tons for $500.00 per ton.  But the 17 rolls are all different pounds, anywhere from 1670 to 1685 in weight.  Is there a way that would could get each of these rolls in at their correct weight?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do not believe that there is any out-of-the-box way of doing this in Sage 500. While you can transact in multiple units of measure within the software, Sage ultimately converts everything to the stocking unit of measure when it updates inventory with its counts. I know that there are some add-on solutions out there that allow you to add attributes to lot tracked items, but you would still need to manually update the custom attribute after each transaction to maintain the actual weight if you only used a portion of the roll with each transaction.

Thank you for your quick response! This at least helps us define a different approach to how we proceed with changing this process.
