Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave Tax

Posted By FormerMember

Has anyone figured out how to drive the taxable and subject-to wages back to gross for the Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave tax?  I am under the impression that the tax is based on gross wages, yet if you use the Sage knowledge base instructions you end up choosing a tax table (FICA/SDI) that is going to result in gross minus deductions.  While the knowledge base article does provide a formula that will calculate the right tax, the subject to and taxable wages seen on such reports as the "Subject to Employer" and "Subject to Employee" will show the gross wages minus deductions.  The issue arises when we import the tax to the third party tax processor, ADP, who utilizes the subject to wage and from what I understand reports that on the quarterly.

We set this up for a client before Sage offered it, so we created our own local taxes.  Our subject-to wages are correct.  You might want to try that in some test data:  set up one person with the Sage taxes, and one with custom taxes.  Ours is a union company and we discovered that we needed to include union Vacation benefit in the calc base, but not other union benefits.  The users verify this and other calculations against ADP's calculations, and so far, so good.  Let me know if you want to compare more detailed info.
