Customer on hold - Order entry

Is there a way to flag a customer in the order/shipment entry screen that tells the user that the customer's balance is overdue or that they are over their credit limit?

We are using Sage 300 Premium 2016.

Yes, you give the customer a credit limit

Thanks Jay, but even thought the customer has a credit limit the order entry people can and do create new orders with nothing flagging them in the OE/Shipment entry screens . Am i missing a setting in OE setup or elsewhere that will cause a warning etc to occur?

You're missing something, I'm guessing on the OE permissions they have Credit Approval.
Also look at OE Setup Options, Processing, Credit Checks.

I did a customization of the order confirmation for a client, where a big brightly colored subreport splashes across the page with "Do Not Ship" if it finds an overdue balance or credit limit issue, and lists outstanding invoices. Then through the wonders of PrintBoss, a copy prints in the collection person's office so that she can contact the customer if appropriate. Proper credit limit setup should force an approval as Jay and 49153 described, but this solution also helped let the person entering the order understand the issue.

Thanks for the update, how much was involved (effort or cost) to design this. I only see a place to add credit limit etc in the customer group setup(??), and when I turn on the settings in OE it still allows an order to be placed for a customer of the appropriate group even though the order is beyond the established credit limit or days overdue with a zero balance. I'm sure I'm missing something basic.

The customer group is just the default. Look at the customer master.

Check "Allow Edit of Credit Check" in AR Customer Groups
