In PM-Refund a security deposit for future lease

We set up a future tenant and posted a security deposit.  The tenant changed their mind, so we refunded it.  The refund entries posted to PM and GL, but not on the tenant ledger.  In fact, the security deposit still is on the tenants account.  Do we need to activate the lease?  Presently, there is another tenant in that same unit, so during activation we may see a dialogue box indicating two tenants in same unit.  Any suggestions?
