Do you HAVE to update to the latest Sage Payroll version?

Question

Do you HAVE to update to the latest Sage Payroll version at year-end? We are currently on Sage 2019 Payroll version 2.21.0. Payroll version 2.22 is available to download....do you have to update before running the first payroll of 2022? 
 Another question: we are still in version 2.21 Sage & has not prompted me to update the latest tax tables for 2022 yet. I have closed the prior year/quarter payroll module and changed the payroll module date to 1/1/2022 but no prompts came up for payroll tax updates or tax tables..... 
 Thank you in advance! (I feel like I'm the only one working on year-end today!!)

Is there a reason you don't want to upgrade the payroll? You are missing a year worth of fixes. The payroll upgrades are not like the Sage 100 upgrades and don't have to be done at the same time. 
 The prompt for payroll tax updates isn't dependent on the payroll module date. If you want to see if there is an update available run the update under payroll, utilities.
