Test Environment Setup

SOLVED

Hello,

Our company is interested in redoing our entire GL structure, obviously this will cause a massive change. We have been advised not to create a separate company and do the testing within that company as some of the GL settings are shared globally throughout the Sage 100 Advanced installation. I do not know if this is true or not, or what kind of data is shared between companies. In this case, we would need to setup a secondary version of Sage in order to perform testing and structure changes in a closed environment before making it live at the beginning of 2022.

Of course, if the companies are totally and completely separate from each other apart from being within the same Sage installation, then this becomes a non-issue. Does our license of Sage 100 Advanced entitle us to the right to use it in a test environment, or do we have to purchase a second license to be able to do this legally?

Are there any recommendations for what would be the easiest way to do this? Should we just use an old computer, install Sage, and host it off that computer as a "server". Additionally, the actual workstation program itself can only be pointed at one specific source port as well if I am correct. Is there an easy way to change that port number within the installation, something akin to changing companies?
