Desktop Customization Import v2020

Has anyone used the new v2020 feature under File, Desktop Utilities, Customization Import? I have an upgrade from 2017 to 2020 and have classic users on the 2017 version with shortcuts and the boxes to check for importing are blank. There doesn't seem to be much information on this new feature such as when to run it and what all needs to be in place first.

  • This is all i could find in the What's New for 2020.1.

Thank you. That's all I can find too. I have 2017 & 2020 installed on same workstation so I thought this would be pretty simple to use but not working for some reason. I'll have to keep digging.

  • The Desktop Customization Import Utility scans the old 'Public and Private' folder locations (see KB: Where are the Public and Private folders and tasks stored for the My Tasks tab? ID: 36064) for MNUTASKP.ini (Public Task), MNUCBTN.TXT (Custom Taskbar Buttons) and MNUTASKS.ini (Private Tasks) files.

    Thanks

Thank you information was very helpful. What I'm finding is that you'll need to copy any of the MNU files from the old version to the new version and then v2020 will import as favorites. My desktop customization boxes were greyed out because the MNU files did not exist on the 2020 workstation location. Once I copied the MNUCBTN & MNUTASKS files from  C:\Sage\Sage 100 Workstation_2017\MAS90\Launcher\<Sage 100 User Logon>\<Windows Logon> to C:\Sage\Sage 100 Workstation_2020\MAS90\Launcher\<Sage 100 User Logon>\<Windows Logon> , the Desktop Customization Import worked. Therefore, it's important not to uninstall the old version from the workstation if using sage 100 advanced until you have a copy of the MNU files if you want to use this feature. For public tasks the MNUTASKP file is saved on the server under MAS_SYSTEM and should come over when you migrate your system files.

(For the standard version all these files are located on the server under Launcher or Mas_System)

Nice feature for those who had a ton of shortcuts from the classic version!

For a client moving from 2016 Advanced to 2021 Premium, I followed the KB to import Public Tasks into Favorites.  They are in a hosted environment.  From the Terminal Server, the admin user (me) can see the imported favorites.  I have logged into Sage under the same Windows creds using 2 different Sage logins, and I see the favorites under both logins.  When a user logs into the T/S & Sage under a different admin Windows account, he sees the Favorites, also.  When he logs into the T/S & Sage using his non-Admin Windows user creds, he does not see the Favorites.  Can anyone explain this?

What I discovered:  the Customization Import utility imports them, but they are Private tasks for the Windows user that ran the utility and imported them.  There are no Public Favorites.
