List of previous month's activity

Hello,

I have taken over at a small non-profit association and was given zero information by the previous accountant. I have never used this software. I am trying to simply look at all of the journal entries from the previous month so I can see what entries I need to make each month, (i.e. payroll, depreciation, revenue recognition, etc.).

Is there no way to run a report of the previous month's transaction listed by date?  I was able to get a report with all transaction sorted by each account but it can't be sorted by date, and each transaction shows up under each category affected by the entry, so if one journal entry has 30 lines, it shows up once under each account affected.  What I need is a list of the transactions themselves, a summary, not a list of each category with every line of every journal entry affecting it.  

In QuickBooks you can just scroll through journal entries by the date.
