Duplicate Item Numbers

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else ran across this issue and if so, how it was resolved.

We have identical item numbers that appear when we search for an item in item inquiry and item maintenance. Selecting one of the item numbers results in either Sage saying "item not found" in item inquiry or "**NEW ITEM**" in item maintenance. However, when we select the actual item number that has history (transaction, etc.), and then click on the previous item button, the duplicate item shows up with one or two transactions in the transaction history. For simplicity, I will call the "bad" item number "itemB" and the good item number "itemA"

Looking at the item numbers in data maintenance, itemB shows weird characters at the end of the item name sort of resembling B's. Sage Support stated it usually occurs when the item number is copied and pasted into the Sage from an external source with errors, like a spreadsheet.

I tried working with Sage support to merge and delete the item, but itemB will not delete.

I was finally told we will have to merge the two items through SQL, and that Sage support does not work with SQL so we will have to go at it alone. I was also informed that different versions of SAGE have an item utility function that does this sort of thing, but since we are on SAGE SQL, it can only be done through SQL.

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, were you able to merge the two items without directly working in SQL?
