Order item A, which is a kit with components B and C.

Enter an order, and "explode" the kit components (an option in Item Maintenance), resulting in three lines in the SO (A, B, & C).

This allows you to sell A (which has the price), but ship B and C (where the inventory is consumed / COGS comes from).

If you don't explode the kit, you're expected to pre-assemble the kit (stored in inventory within the kit item code) using the Bill of Materials module (to convert the components into the finished kit item), which does not seen to fit your business process.

As always, try it in a test company first.

How kits might work with your EDI solution is something to discuss with your EDI provider.

Thank you for this information.  i was able to find the setting to Explode the kit and set it to Always.

when i enter a sales order with that KIT ITem #, it gives me a pop up

i am able to click NO and enter Qty Ordered 1 on the KIT line item and then it adds the two items i want as a qty of 1.

will this pop up always occur?  or is there a way to bypass this?

just trying to get as much info as possible before i start testing this kit item # with our EDI system which creates a txt file and we run it thru mapadoc.

You should not be getting this message if you have the Explode option on your K1-001 set to Always.

Maybe i am setting it in the wrong spot?  i clicked on product Line for KiTS and i set it there.    is there another spot i have to set it at?

That is the default for new items.  You need to set it in Item Maintenance.

ahh!!  cant believe i missed that.   will update and test that out.

stircrazy08,  you can use the Product Line "Apply..." button to apply that setting to all the items in the product line.  This will make changing all the items less tedious.
