Business Insights Report fails after update from 2020.1 to 2020.2 Advanced

Message is “You cannot run this report as the data is in use by another task.”  Other messages include:  "view cannot be used - one or more tables are missing" to the table VIEW_ to the "you do not have sufficient rights" depending on if you try to select, copy or run the report and where it is selected.

This is the only BI Report in the system.  I created a new report with data from the same view, which runs. When I try to select the original report it lists the Report Name   The report will not run when launched from within Crystal  with the message “Failed to retrieve data from the database.  Details:  S0000:[ProvideX][ODBC Driver][FILEIO] Table is not accessible [Database Vendor Code: 12]. Note:  the message appears even if CSODBC is not enabled for all users.

 Steps taken:

  • Rebuilt BI Reporter Views
  • Exported the report from a working backup
  • Re-imported the report (overwrote existing report)
  • Copied the .BIR and .rpt and from the backup and imported into the production system (BIR Import seems to have succeeded (i.e., files were removed from the Import folder), but the report did not appear in BIR or BIR Listing
  • Deleted all reports from BIR and re-imported the original report. Same message.

To complicate matters, in the backup system, I tried to copy the report (by selecting it in BIR and making a copy, but after assigning a new Report Name and clicking “Next”, this message appears: “Report XXXX is in use”.  This report will be skipped.”

Has anyone encountered this issue &/or have ideas?  I have a case open with Sage, who suggested I post here.

    Are you running 100c?

    Hi Barb,

Did you ever get this resolved?

I recently upgraded a Sage 100 Standard system from 2018.2 to 2021.2. Everything went well except these BIR reports. They have about 10, and almost every one of them produced a "You do not have sufficient rights to perform report" - I checked and it was not related to Role Maintenance. Some reports gave the message "You cannot run this report as the data is in use by another task". Per Solution ID: 92187 I created copies of the reports. These ran without errors, but generate no data (they have date and other parameters).

No, this is not resolved.  The client rebuilt the report in BIR, but when we updated them to PU4, it broke.  He rewrote the report using Crystal, but not BIR.  I worked with Sage R&D, but the person I worked with couldn't resolve it.  Apparently written by George Rivere back in the day and perhaps no one else has expertise with it.

    Hi Cullen,

Please send me your RPT and I'll take a look. Thanks John

Barb, I've forwarded the e-mail I sent last August explaining what is incorrect in the report. Thanks John

Thanks John, just sent you an email.

Full disclosure - I really haven't used this tool in a long time, and even then only rarely.

I find some of the instructions in the Help Menus for this tool a bit confusing:
"Note You will only be able to see the modifications on the report if you selected the Regenerate the Crystal .RPT check box on the Define Report Name wizard page while using Business Insights Reporter Wizard."

    ..and:
"Warning If you customize a Business Insights Reporter report in SAP Crystal Reports Designer, modifying or copying the report in the Business Insights Reporter wizard will cause your SAP Crystal Reports Designer changes to be lost. To modify the report and retain all changes, click the Design Report button and modify the report in SAP Crystal Reports Designer."
