Sage Intelligence question regarding Sage 100 Premium upgrade- Why can't I just point to the new repository?

I am upgrading a client from Sage 100 2018 Premium with a complex Sage Intelligence install to Sage 100 2021 Premium with no change in Sage Intelligence's version. According to the documentation and a support call, I need to do a clean install of the same version, modify my containers AGAIN, recreate my folder structure, export my reports from the source install ( 50+), import into new SI, and create the cache AGAIN (200+ companies).

Why can't I just point to the new repository? Is this the truth?

It should only be necessary if the version of SI changes with the upgrade, or you want to move the repository.

Have you tried pointing to the existing repository?

I'm planning for a big upgrade. That's my question. Should I be able to and that upgrade documentation is only if upgrading versions of SI?

You would think. Sage support told me I had to, but the aren't what they used to be. I do believe you're right, I'm planning for both. I'll update.

This was a disaster. If you read the documentation for the upgrade, UpgradeChecklist and UpgradeGuide NOWHERE does it mention you HAVE TO INSTALL A NEW SQL INSTANCE! If you search the kb you find it spelled out. I've been doing this 20 years. I just never had SQL clients. This burned me.

Correct, when you go to install Sage 100, it should give you an error if it finds an existing MAS_System database.
