report from excel container, only runs if workbook open

Running Sage 2017 SP1, with Excel Container

I have created an excel link for a large report that I'm going to pull several small reports from for distribution.

This runs perfectly if the linked excel report is open but not if it's closed.

I will be adding these reports to MS Scheduler.

I suppose I could run the master 1st and set it to leave it open, then schedule all the others.

The problem with that is the next night the report will not run because it is open.

Is there a flag or a step I'm missing to be able to use the excel workbook even if it's closed?

Close the master after all the reports have run. That is a long shot answer based on my experience, without seeing your code and what you are doing it is at best a guess.
I use an alternate process where I link the tables to an Access database, run queries and dump the results to Excel. A couple of advantages here, one is speed when the queries run. I can post some sample code later today if you wish to see.

Edit: I just saw this is Sage Intelligence Reports, sorry my reply is slightly off topic.
