Timeslips and Bottomline/Legal X

SOLVED

My company has upgraded our Timeslips to Timeslips 2015.  I am now attempting to export slips into Bottomline/LegalX for the first time and am having problems.  I am converting my slips into LEDES98B format and keep getting the error "The third filed (CLIENT_ID) must be present" in Bottomline/LegalX.  I have spoken to both Timeslips and Bottomline/LegalX and no one seems to have an answer for me to get rid of this error.  Is anyone else using these two programs or knows what I have to do to fix it so I can upload invoices into Bottomline/LegalX?

Don't know who you spoke with at TImeslips but the error means exactly what it says. There is a field called CLIENT_ID that requires data and you don't have it filled in. In the Ledes setup you define which field has the CLIENT_ID. Look at your setup and see where that is assigned. Then make sure that field is filled in within the Timeslips client record.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.  The tech at Sage did attempt to help me with my problem, but the "fix" still isn't working.  I had no CLIENT ID field in Timeslips to begin with.  The tech had to create a CLIENT ID field in Timeslips and it is still not where Bottomline wants it to be and I continue to get the error message. I'm hoping someone who is using both of these programs shares with me their fix.

You have to go into the Ledes98 setup and match the fields. If they are not populating correctly then would need to look at the specs from BottomLine and the setup and determine what they really want in each field and how to match them with the way Timeslips sets up the fields. I have done this with many electronic billing houses, as have many of the certified consultants on this board. I think I have done BottomLine but each e-billing house is different and it's really hard without seeing the specific requirements and your setup.

Bottomline needs content/something in the third field in the file (Client ID) in order to determine which client you are submitting the file for.  It either does not recognize the content that you have supplied as a valid Client ID, or the field is actually blank.  I cannot tell from your posts which.

From the topmost menus, if you choose Setup | Audit Houses | select LEDES1998B and open, you will see that the first field in the Invoice Section is Client ID and next to it is where you tell Timeslips to find the content that it should plug into that field when it does the export.  It will be one of your Client Custom Fields.  Check which field you are using to supply the Client ID here. Then close those settings without changing anything.

Now, open up your individual client record for the client you are trying to export and look under the Custom Fields section to find the content for that field that will be placed into the LEDES1998B file and confirm that it is the content that Bottomline is expecting to see.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you, Nancy!  You gave me exactly the missing information I needed.  After an hour of trial and error, I am now able to upload my invoices into Bottomline.  Whew!
