report help !

My boss would like me to generate a report that includes the following information:

Specific Attorney

Cases that have had less than an hour of time entered.

open/closed cases from 2010-2019

I can't seem to figure out which report will give me a TOTAL time entered on her cases even if they are open or closed- seems like reports only give a total time for the month per case and I need total from start to finish of the case showing less than an hour

If you remove any Date filter, you should get ITD (Inception to Date).

Well, you said in your original post "...reports only give a total time for the month per case..." which I took to mean that you had a report that you liked, but the date range was the only problem.  The advice re: date ranges is the same for all reports in the program.

Which version of Timeslips are you running?

When you say "Specific Attorney" what do you mean by that? Do you want to see any time that that particular attorney has put into ANY of the cases? Or do you want to know what time has been put in by ANY attorney on THAT SPECIFIC Attorney's cases that they are in charge of?

You will need an Opened and Closed Custom Date Field  on each Client, and populated.  If the field is blank the record won't qualify for the filter.

The two most popular/flexible slip based reports are the Slip Listing and the Slip Summary.  Slip Listing will list every single slip, but you can do some sorting/subtotallying/rolling up by the sort. The Slip Summary is good, but has a lot of extraneous information.  I usually end up filtering it and changing a lot of the options, but can usually get something usable out of it.

If you were my client I might even just pull together a quick User Defined report that only has the hours in it to speed things up. However, usually once we do that, my customers start wanting more information in the report and so I like to have a good sense of what they really want before we start so we waste as little time as possible.

None of them are going to tell you EXACTLY what you want, because you are looking for what we call "negative information/data."  That means you want Timeslips to tell you what is NOT in the database. Not as easy as it sounds.  Databases do a MUCH better job of telling you what they DO have in them, not what they don't.

However, you could take the results of the report to EXCEL and then sort by the totals column to find out which Clients have the least amount of hours.

Depending on how you plan to use the report, I might even suggest that you do it as a Timeslips Today Template report...

Bottomline, there a LOT of reports in Timeslips with LOTS of filters, sorts and options.  But walking you through finding the exact report you will like is beyond the scope of this bulletin board.

If you would like further assistance with this report, just reach out to me via any of the methods below and we can discuss the scope and costs.
