Transferring from TSRemote to Timeslip 2011

SOLVED

Have been using TS for many years.  Recently upgraded main computer where TS2011 is installed.  The remote TS computers cannot send slips to main TS unless main TS is closed.  TSRemote asks for location of TS install but it does not recognize indicating mapped drive may need to be changed.

Pathing for the Paradox versions of Timeslips can be a challenge.  But it sounds like that is what is the issue here.  ALL machines that access the database need to see it via the same number of subdirectories.  The Drive letter itself is less relevant that what appears after it.

On a peer to peer network, this type of issue is very common as the machine hosting the database is often using a different path than the workstations.

By any chance is the new machine running Windows 10 and/or 64-bit operating system? That could be the issue as you are running an old version of Timeslips that is not supported in that environment. I believe part of the reason TSremote was discontinued was 64-bit operating system, but I could be wrong.

Yes, Win10Pro and 64bit.  When I do Send Slip to other database, it will prompt to locate install of TS on other machine (it is not a mapped letter drive, but the folders are shared) and then come back with "The installation folder you gave did not work. There may be a different drive to access this data base.  If I close down the main TS, the Remote slips get sent without prompting for any install folder.

@Caren2, I believe it is the workstations that are prompting for the CFG file, not the new Windows 10 machine.

I have TS2011 installed in C:\Programme Files (x86)\Timeslips.  Data data is in C:\Timeslip\Data01.  If I navigate through Drive C down to prog.files\TS, I get the common error message, "Could not establish the network lock file PDOXUSRS.NET needed to open this database.  Please confir...access to install directory.

The PDOXUSRS.NET file is a lock file. Make sure Timeslips is closed everywhere and see if you can find and delete that file. Then try again.

Exactly.  I find Windows does not like to share subfolders of C:\Program Files on workstations, and thus do not install it there when working with peer to peer networks.  It sound like your previous machine probably had Timeslips installed to C:\Timeslips since the data is a subfolder of that. But very difficult to say without taking a look.

    Hi,

I was thinking about reinstalling TS under Timeslips earlier today as it had been originally not the Progfiles folder .  I will try and let you know. Thanks

I reinstalled TS under the C:\Timeslips folder, gave everyone sharing rights to \TIMESLIP and DATA01.  Same result.  When TS server is open, TS Remote prompt to locate TS Install.  I navigate to \TIMESLIP \DATA01 folder on server and then TSR prompt to show where install folder is.  I navigate to C:\TIMESLIP on server and get error message, "Could not establish the network lock file PDOXUSRS.NET.  This file is located in C:\TIMESPLIPS and C:\PROGRAMData/BORLAND/NETDIR.

However, when TS server is shut down (i.e. PDOX file is also closed), TSRmote users can send slips (no prompts after selecting DATA01 folder for install folder).

How do I get the locked PDOX file not to be inacessible?

    Thanks
