Release charges on Hold

SOLVED

Hi there.

I have the box checked to Release slips on hold but the system doesn't do it. How can I get this feature to work?

You have the HOLD box checked on the slips?  Or you have a Client Hold set?

Current updated versions of Timeslips should release the slips on hold once you bill them, or for purposes of running the Pre-Bill Worksheet.

Client Holds have to removed manually.

I have the HOLD box checked on the slips under Billing Status and Rate Settings. I also have the Release slips marked on hold checked as well.

It still does not release the HOLD. Why?

So you don't have the latest release installed (should be 27.0.3.234), and if you have a support plan with Sage, you should be upgrading to Timeslips 2020 as well.

There is no "Release the hold" on the client level.  Unless you are talking about a client hold of "Hold Time Charges" is set to something other than OFF and the client re-saved.

In the Options area of Generate Bills you can mark the box marked 'Release slips marked hold' which will take care of individual slip holds. If that isn't happening, you likely do have a client hold as well.

If you have support with Sage call 800-285-0999 for assistance, or contract with a consultant here to take a look.

I just checked and no the Client Hold is off.

Correct I'm talking about Release slips marked hold.

I'm going to run and update and see if that helps.

Okay, let's backup a bit.  Why are the slips on HOLD in the first place? What does that achieve for you?

Secondly, is correct in that you should ONLY need to check the OPTION to "Release slips marked hold" in the Generate Bills dialog.

So we are unclear what exactly you are checking/unchecking when you "open the client." Can you give us a few more clues as to what you are changing there?

A little background: I started generating bills for certain clients in May of this year. So I'm a newbie and self taught.

I', also the one who input the time. Our attorney do not do it themselves. This is a very unorthodox office. Before this version of TS (which we purchased January 2019) we had one that was not supported by Sage for quite some time.

When I first started inputting time (13 years ago) the Office Manager told me to always click Hold because billing is not on time and next months bills will be there by the time she generates a bill for the previous month. That's why we use Hold.

I guess I can opt out of checking hold for the clients I am now responsible for so that takes care of me. But the Office Manager, who manages a lot more than I do has always complained about this issue and still does. We thought with this new version this wouldn't happen but it doe. The Office Manager just dealt with it. I can't when the function is there. Very tedious.

    Thank you!!

Yeah, that's an unnecessary laborious process.  When you run your bills, use a Slip Transaction Date filter and just end with the current month end for billing.

For instance, I could run bills for 'Earliest' to 'June 30, 2019' and not have any July slips appear on the bill I run today.

    Understood.

But the Office Manager who uses Hold will still have this issue. I'd love to be able to clear that up for her.

You are going to need to have someone look at it, I suspect.  If you have support, call Sage.  Or ask her to please "stop doing that" because it isn't, and to be honest never was, necessary.

The function should work, and does in every version you have mentioned in my testing, so somewhere we are missing something you have selected that we aren't replicating in our tests.

I called Support and it's been resolved! Thank you guys.

Because I was clicking the Generate Bill button found at the very bottom I had to change the settings in the dialog box that pops up - Report Entry: Generate Bills - there's an Options button in which another 'Release slips marked hold' needs to be selected.

The 'Release slips marked hold' that's visible from the Billing Assistant Details page is for the Print box on the right.

I learned a lot this morning. Hope this can help someone else in the future.
