when I downloaded the program from DVD it didn't install the shortcut icon. Anybody know why or what I can do?

Thanks for reaching out! You can also find the downloads on this page, the 2017 can be downloaded from here.
Note that the software requires a Windows OS, here's KB 47873 with details on how to install/download Sage 50 full product.
Perhaps also check your Start menu for a folder labeled as Sage which would contain Sage 50. Visit Windows Start menu, find programs > Sage folder, if software is intalled, then the Sage 50 program icon will be listed, right click it > go to More > Open file location.
Step 2, once in the Open file location screen, find the Sage 50 CA software icon and right click > go to Sent to > Desktop.
This will create an icon shortcut on the desktop, if it wasn't automatically created.
