Question: How can I learn more about the data dictionary and building expressions?
Answer: There are lots of available resources to learn about Sage HRMS features and functionality, including the data dictionary.
- Access the Sage Knowledgebase
- Contact Sage Support
- If you have gold support, schedule a 30 minute free training session
- Go to Sage University and listen to any time learning videos (free with gold support)
- Access Sage HRMS Online help
The one I am going expand upon today, is online help from within Sage HRMS. To learn more about the data dictionary, from the Navigation Pane go to Reports > System > Data Dictionary. Click on help icon. On the Contents tab, under Using Data Dictionaries, select Database Terms. The help topic explains what a database file is and shows an example of what a table looks like. You can click on a link to find out more information about a database field, type, name, or length. The article then explains expressions, functions, and how to run the data dictionary report.
In the help article (Contents tab > Using data dictionaries > HRMS Data Dictionary), you can see the files, descriptions, and alias. If you click on a particular file, for example BPSPCDET
it will show you the fields, names, type. length, description.
What a perfect opportunity to go paperless. No more printing the data dictionary reports on paper!
Understanding the data dictionary is a perfect lead-in for our upcoming Learning Series this week called SAP Crystal Report for Beginners. If you haven't already enrolled, be sure to do so. This is a free one hour webinar on how to create an SAP Crystal Report using the Report Wizard.
