HRMS Learning Series – Expiring Benefits

Hi all!

Sorry for the delay in getting the questions up on Sage City from our 10/30 HRMS Learning Series on Expiring Benefits. Without further ado, here they are!

Question Asked Answer Given
is there a reason that only 1 benefit prompts me to create a history record? Hmm...that's an interesting one. Usually Benefit History is an "all or none." If you are only seeing one plan prompting you, try to create a test medical plan and see if that one prompts you. If not, I'd give our support folks a call for some additional troubleshooting.
For example: Medical & dental do not, but life insuracne always promts to create a history record. They are open Monday through Friday 9am to 8pm EST.
What if we wanted to expired only one company's benefits, but not the others and the benefits are showing under enterprise? Great question. The best way of expiring a class from one company only is by using a Mass Update. Using a Mass Update, you can select the plan AND the company and just choose to expire that plan for that company. Mass Updates can be intimidating so if you aren't familiar with them, give us support folks a call and have them walk you through it.
Can you explain how benefits are expired through BE Open Enrollment After an Open Enrollment is complete on the Sage Employee Self Service side and it sends all of the information back to Sage HRMS, one of things it does is to expire any plans where the employee has selected an additional plan. Pretty slick.
Can you use an existing benefit plan in ESS BE?  Is that where you must require all employees to choose an election and if they do not elect to continue it would expire the existing benefit plan in their record? You can definitely use an existing plan in Sage Employee Self Service (ESS) Benefits Enrollment. And yes, in many cases the Open Enrollment is set up to where the employee must make a choice....this is done by creating a new plan and only making that plan available to choose (such as HMO 2020 being an option but the employee's current plan, HMO 2019, not being available.)
I'm thinking more of a Life Insurance plan.  It's already a current plan for an employee and we need to know if they wish to continue or not. Yep, that would work too. You could have the plan available for choosing even if they already have it.
Regarding your example of HMO 2020 replacing HMO 2019.  I'm guessing you will have to expire the HMO 2019 as BE won't know to do it when adding HMO 2020? Correct. I would Mass Update that plans Expiration date to be the end of the year. Once Jan 1st (or whenever the Open Enrollment begins,) the new plan would take over.
Hmm.  Why wouldn't you expire the plan with the instructions presented today? You could as well. Either way. :)
