Can I delete an asset that was uploaded in Dec 2018 by mistake? It was done twice. so I only one is real, the other isn't. what will happen to my deprecation if I do? if I cannot, what is the best way to handle this situation?
Yes, you can always delete asset - there is just no going back without a backup once it is done. The effect of a deletion is that the asset and any associated depreciation just disappears, as if it was never there. to get the same effect w/o actually deleting the asset - you could Inactivate it which is just like a deletion but you can undo an Inactivation.
thank you. the asset should never have been uploaded so I don't want to show it. But it is already depreciated a couple months... what do I need to do for that? anything? just a normal Journal entry? thank you again.
There would be no journal entry from the program - the depreciation would just disappear as if it never existed. You would manually adjust your GL to remove the depreciation
sorry, one more question, what if I inactivate it like you suggested. What would be the results? I wasn't trained on this program, I just took it over from person who left. So I am driving by the seat of my pants.... thank you
The Inactivate is a non-auditable transaction which is just like deleting the asset, but you can easily undo it if need be: Please see KB ID:17239 What is the effect of deleting assets and inactivating assets in Sage Fixed Assets?
