What are ISO files and why would I need them?

1 minute read time.

First, let's start with a quick introduction into what is an ISO file? An ISO file, is an archive file that contains an identical copy (or image) of data found on an optical disc, like a CD or DVD.  ISO files today are used primarily for distributing large programs and operating systems, mainly because all the files are contained in one easily downloaded file. Ok, so now that we've got that out the way, how does this relate to X3? You may ask...

An example, of when an ISO file could be beneficial is when upgrading/migrating an X3 solution. An ISO file will expedite the upgrade process tremendously. Case in point. Let's say, the source folder is V6P37 (FYI: the minimum patch level can be obtained from HERE) and the target release is 2021R2 (12.0.26). You would use the download file from KB 110919 (Download Sage X3 Version 12.0.26 ISO (Full Version)). This ISO full version download contains the latest components (i.e., print server, runtime, Syracuse) and patch which includes the latest fixes and enhancements.

IT IS NOT necessary to download the GA (Generally Accepted) version of V12 (12.0.14) nor install the respective patches for the targeted release of 2021R2 (12.0.26) (e.g., 12.0.15, 12.0.16., 12.0.17., 12.0.18., 12.0.19., then finally 12.0.26 via cumulative patching).

PS. 2019R4 (12.0.19) is the minimum patch required in order to utilize cumulative patching.

The upgrade path and time has been greatly improved with the use of ISO files. Our development team is constantly improving the upgrade processes to be more efficient and streamlined. So our customers can benefit from the latest fixes, security and product enhancements EXPEDITIOUSLY!
