What's on the menu

2 minute read time.

In this blog I want to call attention a situation where you may encounter names of certain menu items appear to be different when compared to what you are used to seeing. You may find this situation more common in a support role when working with different language settings. For example, while working on a Sage X3 vm, I was attempting to duplicate a problem.  I was following the steps to duplicate. When I got to the step that said to go to Shipments, Shipment validation but I couldn't find Shipments. It took me a while to figure out why that was. It has to do with the language setting option being used. Lets review this area of X3.

After you log into X3, click on Super administrator and select Language. This will show the language set for the user for their session in X3. The language setting likely doesn't change much if at all once it has been set. In our example, I am set with en-US English(United States). However, I realized that the steps came from a system that had en-GB English(United States)

Let's take a look at a few screens with both the language settings to see some examples.  Look at the main menu listing. The USEnglish shows Setup while the UKEnglish shows Parameters and the USEnglish shows Stock while the UKEnglish shows Inventory. Both options take you to the same underlying function. However, if you are using a search to look for Inventory on a USEnglish language environment setting, you will not find it.

If we drill into the Sales menu and expand its submenus we can also see some differences in the names listed. I have circled a few of them. Even though the names are different for the underlying function names are the same. So Deliveries or Shipments calls upon function GESSDH. For Price Entry or Price List Entry, function GESSPL is called.

I hope this sheds some light on why you may see different names for the same menu items. When in doubt make sure you check your language setting.
