How to link a sales order to a work order when using projects?

1 minute read time.

In this blog let us look at a scenario where a SO and a WO can be linked to the correct project (Project management).

Scenario:

  • There are 3 BOM(s), 2 finished goods (FG) and 1 semi-finished good (SFG).
  • SFG is consumed on the FG BOM(s).
  • Projects are launched and assigned on the sales orders.
  • Receive in the semi-FG for each project.
  • Convert the WOS for the SO demand into WOF.
  • Finally, when the FG work orders are tracked it should automatically allocate the sales order based on the projects.

Setup:

Create three manufacturing BOMs, two finished products, one semi-finished product.

Semi-finished product is the component for the two finished products.

Product management mode = ‘By order’

Product-site, Planning tab, reorder mode = ‘By MRP’, Suggestion type = ‘Manufacturing’, reorder policy = ‘BNT’ (Net requirements) and assignment rule = ‘PJM’ (project management).

Standardized project = ‘Yes’

BOM Structure:

Create two projects without a task or a budget.

Create two SOF(s) for the released products.

Launch the projects and assign them to the sales orders.

Run MRP

Convert both WOS(s) for the semi-finished released product into WOF(s).

Receive the raw materials and complete the tracking.

Enterprise planning:

In Enterprise planning, filter by the projects (use the ‘Criteria’ button).

Notice, there are two WOS for each demand and by the project.

Convert them into WOF.

Notice, the SOF and WOF is linked and assigned.

In assignment workbench shows the link between the work order and the sales order.

Check the WO, the component is automatically allocated to the correct project.

Finally, track the released product and check the SO.

Notice, the SO is allocated to the correct project.
