Estimate Catalog

SUGGESTED

When using File Open in the File menu, is it possible to collapse the Estimate Catalog so that all of the folders are not open?  I would like to collapse the Estimate Catalog so that only the Years are showing and I can drill down from there to find the estimate I am looking for.  Right now when I use the File Open function, the Estimate Catalog is completely expanded and I have to do a lot of scrolling just to find the years and collapse them to start my search.

Ha. Ha. You and probably everybody else who uses the Estimating App. While they are at it, maybe they could Tab the File Tree and the Companies and People in the Address Book. That Module works as though it was an afterthought rather than a Primary Module.

Thanks for the reply.  Good to know that I am not the only frustrated estimator out here.

Don, I'm on v19.12 Update 2 then there is a work around for this issue. If you're in an older version you might be out of luck until you upgrade to v19x

To fix this, and by fix I mean close all the folders at once and have them stay closed (unless you open them) you'll want to use File>Manage Estimates. This opens a similar window to the Open Estimate window BUT, you can scroll up to the top and RIGHT CLICK on the top folder called "All Estimates" and choose "Collapse". This will collapse the "All Estimates" folder, AND all the folders underneath it!!

After you've done this, you can close this window and re-open the Open Estimate window and voila! All folders are closed (or match what you have in the Manage Estimates window).

As a side note: don't forget that in the Open Estimate window, right in the middle (below the words Estimate Catalog) is a search box which can also be helpful. Just type in a part of the job/estimate name and it filters out all the other estimates.

In 18.12, it appears that you can collapse the files as you indicate, but once you open something that folder remains open even if you switch estimates and to to another folder.  Do you have to collapse folders every time or once you do the process you described is the default collapsed?

in 19.12 U2, the folders 'remember' how I left them. So if I open a folder, it stays open until I close it (or unless I do the Collapse in Manage Estimates which collapses all folders). Remember, Sage 'learns' as you 'teach it' and it 'remembers' so if you leave a folder open, sage will leave that folder open, if you close it, the same.

So basically, once I've got all the folders Collapsed in manage est, I try to close anything I open when I'm done, or if I have just been leaving a bunch open, then I go to the manage est window and collapse all again.

Do keep in mind, that the right and left arrow keys are very useful keyboard shortcuts for opening/closing a folder. I will often do that when I'm poking around looking at estimates, right arrow while a folder is highlighted will open that folder, left arrow will close it.

Thanks much - I can verify that 19.11 version also works with this.  It appears this is also a user setting in that others who log into a network version can have their own configuration.

That is correct, as I mentioned, it 'learns' as you 'teach it'. So if I'm working on my own project, it remembers what folders I have left opened so the next time I open Sage it has 'learned' what folders to show me opened or closed. And if my partner Billy Bob is working on his project, he teaches it what folders for his project he wants opened/closed and it remembers. It's very handy actually - each day that I'm working I don't have to go through the rig-a-ma-roll to open my project's folders/subfolders they way that I like them to be.  :)
