Sage Estimating - item details - altering crews and adding multiple materials

Hello - I recently started estimating for a site work construction company who owns Sage Estimating 17.3 but never used it. I also have never used it but am willing to see if it works for our needs. Having estimated with the main competition for years I expect things to act in a certain way but am getting very frustrated with Sage Estimating as there is not a good resource for new users. Maybe someone can help answer this...

- Is there a way to add multiple materials into a bid item? I only have one line available for entry under item details?

- After assigning a crew to a bid item can the crew members be altered on that specific item under item details - the resource tab shows the crew members but it is grayed out for changing?

Thank you for your time!

You'll want to use a WBS code for your Bid Items. You can set up as many separate line items (mats, etc) under/inside each Bid Items as you need. You'll also want to make a Spreadsheet Sequence to sort your estimate by Bid Item so you can see all your Bid items sorted together nice and neatly. Only work on that tab/spreadsheet sequence.

You'll also want to open/make visible the "Crew" column on that WBS Spreadsheet Sequence so you can right click and "Edit Crew" for any labor/equip resources for each item in each Bid Item.

Use the Default Values button to assign DB Items during takeoff to your Bid Items, or if you already have the items on your Estimate, right click on the "Row" header to use "Move/Copy" to put them in the correct Bid Item.

It works pretty well for Sitework! And when you upgrade to 18.12 you'll be able to import your client's/owner's list of Bid Items into your estimate's WBS codes which will save you some time manually building that list of WBS/Bid Items.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply it gives me a good starting point.  Seems like the program is geared more toward vertical construction but I'll give it a go...thx
