Default location of businessworks backups

SUGGESTED
Posted By FormerMember

We have a user who created a backup without choosing a specific directory.  It allowed her to complete the backups without any errors, but now we can't find the backup zip file.

If nothing has changed on their workstation, if you go to File, Backup and start the backup wizard, the system usually keeps the path you last used on the workstation.

Otherwise, the default path for backups is the users My Documents folders. However, if the My Documents folder has been redirected to a network path and does not exist on the c:\Users\[user] the default backup path will show [Current drive and filename goes here].   This is from our Knowledge base support.na.sage.com article "Default backup path displays as 'Current drive and filename goes here' (59534)". This resolution instructs the following:

Create a new folder for the backups on the 'Select Backup File Name' screen of the Backup Wizard:

    1. Using the navigation pane on the left, browse to the location where you want the backup to reside
    2. Click Create Folder
    3. Type a name for your backup folder (Example: BWBACKUPS)
    4. Click OK

When doing backups, if the user accept the default backup name, the format is “XXXXXX_05032019_130PM.zip” with “XXXXX” being the company ID, then the date and time. For example SAMPLE_05032019_130PM.zip.

If user is not on a current version (V2019 sp 2 is our current version), another article you may want to review is System allows you to backup to location ([CURRENT DRIVE AND FILE NAME GOES HERE]) (88724). If they were backing up to that location, they were not getting a valid backup.

If you still are unable to find the backup, you may to do a search for .zip file

     Thanks,

    Coleen
