This notice provides important information for Sage Accountants Network (SAN) members supporting clients on unsupported versions of Sage 50—U.S. Edition.
Due to a required upgrade to Actian Zen v13 (formerly Pervasive) in the Sage 50—U.S. Edition 2020.0 release scheduled in July 2019, SAN members and Certified Consultants/Partners supporting clients on older versions of Sage 50 or Sage 50cloud will no longer be able to maintain versions prior to 2019, along with 2020, on the same computer.
The Pervasive License Check for Sage 50 US versions 2018.2 and earlier specifically look for a Pervasive version 11 license key. When you install Sage 50 US 2020.0, Pervasive will upgrade to version 13 Actian Zen on the machine. As part of this upgrade, Pervasive/Actian makes the v11 keys inactive, leaving the new v13 keys. This will cause the earlier version of Sage 50 to no longer work as it will not have the proper key.
It is also important to note that Sage 50 2018.2 and earlier versions are no longer customer-supported releases, so this an opportunity to discuss upgrade options with your clients.
Why We Are Upgrading from Pervasive v11 to Actian Zen (v13)
Actian Zen v13 better supports Windows 10 and offers better Windows 10 compatibility. An upgrade is in order to receive the updated maintenance that Actian has developed into v13.
In addition, the updated version of Actian offers improvements to installation which should result in fewer Actian and Sage 50 installation issues. As well, this version enables updates to activation including a change that should significantly reduce broken keys that today cause the need to reactivate.
What You Can Do Now
In order to avoid any issues when installing Sage 50 2020.0, we strongly recommend that you take necessary action prior to the July release. This includes upgrading your clients to the latest version of Sage 50, acquiring the necessary equipment needed to run the different versions of Sage 50 on separate machines, and/or running Virtual Machines like VMware.

When is the exact date of Sage 50 2020 edition?
Please tell me Actian Zen v13 has better connectivity with ODBC and the entire data structure has faster access times. Please also tell me there is more audit logging.
Hi Rod -
Sage 50 2019 will continue to have payroll tax updates and be supported through Feb. 2020. Sage 50 2019 & Sage 50 2020 will function on the same machine, however releases of Sage 50 US or Peachtree prior to 2019 cannot be run on the same machine as Sage 50 2020.
We will be setting up a separate system for Sage 50 2020 in July or August & install it at that time. My question is will you still be updating 2019 QTRLY payroll for Sage 2019 as well as Sage 2020? Also will I need to transfer the Sage 2019 off the WIN 7 to the new machine due to the database change or will it still function on the old data base?
The system requirements for Sage 50 US 2020 are now published on the Sage Knowledgebase. Please click here.
Provided that the virtual machines are separate environments and the 2018 and 2020 versions are installed as standalone installations on each virtual machine they will run indefinitely in this configuration.
I reached out to support just now to find out if Sage 50 2020 can be installed and activated beyond 30 days on a virtual server, while Sage 50 2018 is installed and activated beyond 30 days on another virtual server (both virtual servers housed on same physical server). The technician could not answer stating they have not been trained on that yet. We need answers to these questions so we can prepare.
Yes, restoring Sage 50 US backup files from clients on older versions into the 2020 version will still be possible.
Currently the system requirements for Sage 50 US 2020 are being finalized and will be published once complete. Please click here for instructions on how to remove Sage 50 US.
We have clients who do not update their Sage product every year. They send us a backup and we restore the file so we can print reports, etc. When we upgrade to Sage 2020, will we be able to restore our clients' files that are an earlier version of Sage 50? We use Sage 50 Accountant edition and upgrade every year.
Can you please provide a link to the hardware/software requirements for installation of Sage 50 2020.0, which would include instructions for complete removal of all software associated with prior versions of Sage 50 if that indeed is also required?
Sage 50 US release 2020 is compatible with Windows 7.
I do not have any clients on Sage. All of the work I do for clients is on my system only. So will this affect me as I only use one machine with Windows 7?
