Global Search failure on desktop client

SOLVED

Every version 2019 desktop client installed from workstation setup is unable to run global search.  We get an error after about 30 seconds, and the global search screen does not appear.

"A problem occurred and the search could not be performed.  Contact your system administrator for help"

Global search works fine on the server installation of Sage 300. 

This is the case for every workstation installation we have carried out at a number of sites, so makes me think we are doing something wrong, but no idea what.  Anyone seen this?
