Move MAS 90 to new server

I found out today that a client copied their MAS 90 4.4 folder to a new server.

They didn't follow the following recommendations from Sage, but everything seems to be working ok.

Question:  is it necessary to perform the following tasks, or is copying the MAS90 folder and subfolders and remapping the workstations sufficient?

Sage MAS 90 or 200 4.40:

  1. Install a brand new MAS90 or 200 to the new location
  2. In the new location login to MAS90/200 and use Parallel migration utility to migrate data from your source install. For more information on this utility please visit Sage Software Online and visit Important installation section under support options for Sage MAS90 or 200
  • What version of MAS?

Copying and pasting is fine, however, you'll need to check the file directories for where the AP and PR ACH files are saved (if they use that) and the file location where the paperless office pdf's are saved. Those all probably are still being saved to the old server.

  • It's also worthwhile checking the SY_Company file with data file display and maintenance just to make sure there were no alternated directories being used, particularly for payroll data. The keys to check are 13 and 14.

  • Thanks guys, I'm aware of the various issues with paperless folder setup options, etc.

Just wondering if there was any valid reason to actually reinstall the application.

  • One of the biggies with doing a "proper install" was back when they didn't have the parallel migration tools for upgrades and the new version installed on top of the old version.

If it wasn't installed properly, when you did the upgrade it didn't see the proper installation files and it wouldn't see the older version when you went to upgrade.
