I'd go with a script lookup of allowed / restricted product lines for customers (UDT? Checkboxes in items / customers?).  SetError when blocked, and that should stop things at the business object level (including imports...).

There is a feature available in the Sales Order module that may be exactly what you need to address this business need (restricting customers from buying specific items or product lines).  Check out Purchase Control Maintenance in the setup menu of Sales Order.  This would first need to be enabled in Sales Order Options, Line Entry folder, Purchase Control (third frame on the left).

Yes of course!  I completely forgot about this feature.  (I've only used it once, a long time ago).

We looked into that and we thought it would work, but it didn't work on our web orders and import orders.

We have used that feature on our web orders, although we do just have 1 customer for all our B2C orders and then have different accounts for our B2B orders.  It has worked well for us.  It used to be an enhancement that DSD offered but now I think it is included as part of Sage 100.

Purchase Control works at the business object level.  Importing with VI or anything using BOI to import orders would use the Purchase Control logic.

This would be a reasonably complex script, to do the lookup.  UDS is a powerful tool, when you know how to write scripts.

When the item code is being set on a new line (SO / invoice detail, column pre-validate), the script could check if the item is allowed for the customer, and block it if not permitted.  From experience, SetError does block effectively in imports.

We sometimes set up web orders to be brought in under a generic customer number... in which case Purchase Control would not work.

Good to know it is at a business object level though.  That makes sense.  Perhaps there is a Role permission override causing Darkjedi problems?

Would it be easier if we create a customer UDF and list the Brands that they cant purchase (we have a Brand UDF for each item) and make a field in sales order that just says Restricted when an item is entered in a sales order line? Background info: We have over 700 Brands, over 30,000 active items, over 65,000 items. Each customer shouldn't have more than 5-8 restricted brands. Would a scrips slow Sales Order down?
