Sage 100: Upcoming requirement changes for Payroll

Upcoming US legislative changes will introduce several payroll reporting requirements. Here’s what you need to know about these requirements, and how we are updating Sage 100 Payroll to help you stay compliant.

Note:

  • The changes described below will be implemented only in the latest version of Sage 100 payroll that is compatible with Sage 100 2018 and later.
  • The January 2020 tax table update (TTU) will be the final TTU released for Sage 100 version 2017. No further TTUs will be release for version 2017.

What you need to know

Component 2 EEO-1 Compensation Data

To comply with reporting requirements that must be in place by September 30, 2019, the following changes to the Employee Maintenance Additional tab are planned for Payroll version 2.19.4, available by early September:

  • Changes to the Ethnicity/Race field—the required categories will be updated
  • New Job Category field with the 10 required job categories available for selection

Changes based on the 2020 W-4 form

Changes for Payroll version 2.20, available in December 2019 for tax year 2020, are under review. Sage is waiting for finalization of the W-4 form and Publication 15-T.

  • Hmm, this seems kinda important, so thanks for posting.  But one would think/hope Sage would include the Partners in addition to Customers on these type of e-mail notifications (attached), but I know that's just continued wishful thinking and embarrassing as we often will first hear of this stuff from our Clients.

There was also an email communication sent out to the primary contact for all Partners on that date. If you would like to send me a Private Message with the ID number of the business, I can verify which email address the communication was sent to.

IMHO restricting technical / product notifications to Partner "primary contacts only" is inappropriate.  I certainly understand the need to have a single point of contact for managing the Sage-Partner relationship, but technical information must be available to all Partners.  Our Primary contact often doesn't forward things, believing we already receive a copy (and she has other priorities, far above forwarding Sage communications to us).  Please consider a different distribution list strategy for technical (vs business) communications with partners.

One of the biggest reasons that we made the decision to start posting all communications on Sage City, and even have the Product Updates made only on Sage City, was to address this exact concern. We had been receiving feedback that communications, for both partners and end-users, were not getting to the appropriate people. So in order to enable the appropriate people to receive those communications, we announced this change almost a year ago and have been posting every communication here.

Thanks Kathleen, I appreciate the effort to address the situation.  I still do get emails from Sage (sales / marketing material, webinar invitations...), and I have no idea if anything else is going out via email that I might be missing.  Sage is a big organization, and while you're posting communications here, other teams within Sage are doing things differently.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds like you're saying it's on us to constantly check here for any posting of important/critical information.  That's crazy.  The information should simply be 'pushed' to us; we shouldn't have to 'pull' it.  Is there a way in Sage City to be notified of 'only' these important announcements?  I did find out that the primary contact on our Sage account in the Portal has been receiving these types of e-mails, but there's no way he's able to constantly forward them to the appropriate Teams within our organization for all the various products.

Btw, thank you for letting us know that the Partners' primary contact receives these e-mail notifications, because of all the complaining and requests that Partners have done over the years re: the exclusion of Partners on these e-mails that our Customers receive, this is the first time I've heard that there is in fact something being sent to the Partners.

I think I found where to subscribe, but can you please confirm if this is the proper way to be notified via e-mail for any new postings in this forum:  Looks like you go to https://www.sagecity.com/support_communities/sage100_erp/f/sage-100-announcements-news-tips, click 'More' button on right, and select 'Turn Forum Notifications On'.

Interesting points being made here.  As I am not a Partner, I could be mistaken, but I would think Partners (and the appropriate people involved) would be accessing a Sage module on almost a daily basis?  If this is the case, wouldn't it be possible to build in an icon of some type (maybe on the menu bar) that will highlight whenever an IMPORTANT communication is available on the website?  This way, any person who uses Sage would be alerted there was something IMPORTANT to review...  seems like it would make the maintenance of email addresses (for adds and deletes) much less necessary.

Yes that is the way to subscribe! This post on Sage City also talks about settings you may want to make to prevent you from getting a bunch of emails every time somebody replies to a post.
