View body of email from List

we have quite a few clients that have asked if its possible to see the details of an email from the communication list - either as a column or if its possible if they hover over a communication it then pops up the details of the email rather than having to click into each comm record to find what they are looking for

has anyone ever done anything clever to achieve this?

We wrote scripts in SQL to read the HTML Body of the email and convert the first 400 characters to text and write it to the Details field. We have it installed at several client sites.
