Has the E-mail window function changed in CRM 2017 and 2018 versions?

In the older versions, a simple way to add more then one person from CRM to an E-mail was to use the E-mail window pop-out option in your Preferences and, click the E-mail address from a Person record which submits into the To field of the popped E-mail window.

You could then position your cursor into the E-mail window CC field and browse to another persons record in CRM, click on their E-mail address and it would also be submitted to the open E-mail window into the field where your cursor is sitting ie. CC field.

Now, in both the 2017 and 2018 versions, it overwrites the original E-mail address submitted in the To field and does not allow you to add another E-mail address to the same E-mail window. Unless, there is a new method of adding random E-mail addresses, which I haven't found yet, is this correct behaviour?

    Hi Penny,

You are right, I was so sad when this possibility disappeared ( from SageCRM 7.2, I think).

From Sage CRM 2017 R2, you have the email suggestion. That helps a lot and you can add several emails in the TO, CC and BCC fields.

You can search by email or by name ( as with the Quickfind).

Unfortunately we cannot filter the suggestions to get only active persons for example

    Penny & Jerome

    Hold on...

    See: help.sagecrm.com/.../EM_ShortcutKeys.htm

Shift + Opens new email and inserts addresses in To.

Ctrl + Opens new email and inserts addresses in CC.

Alt + Opens new email and inserts addresses in BCC.

I've just been investigating this and I can use a pop up email window set via my preferences (help.sagecrm.com/.../PR_Preferences-LoginAndSession.htm).

And when I am navigating round I can then find new people and Shift + , or Ctrl + or Alt + to get the email address to be added to my email.

    Thanks Jeff.

In 2018, I have clicked on an email address to open the popup email window. I then Shift + Click another email address link from a different screen then the person summary screen (the Person search results screen) and it wipes the first email address. Then on the second round of testing it worked when I used the same Person search results screen to start the email and add new addresses to the email.

Shift + Click opens another window session of CRM displaying the same detail in CRM as the current window I am working in.

The Ctrl + Click are working to add in the extra people to the CC but neither the Alt + Click or the Ctrl + Click are consistent.

I have quite a few windows open with CRM now so I close down all the open windows and start again from scratch. I can't seem to get a pattern that works at the moment so I will try again a bit later on when I have some more time.

    Hi Jerome,

That is cool. So, we can start typing an email address that we may know is in the system and it will filter down until you have the one you are after.

Thanks for the tip Jerome! Now, my problem is solved..

    Cheers.

    Penny

The 'click' behaviour seems to be working consistently and correctly on my version (Sage CRM 2018 R1) but if you feel that the behaviour is incorrect then I think you should log a case.

    Hi Penny,

I understand the issue you have as it gave me nightmares to understand why it sometimes worked and sometimes not.

Before selecting the second email address ( with ctrl key) you should check the 1st email is not highlighted.

If highlighted, click next to the email and you will be able to add the second email without replacing the 1st one...

It was to complicated for our customers so we created a custom plugin so they can search for contacts within Outlook...

    Best regards,

    Jerome
