CRM 7.1 SP2: Translate products?

Hello,

is it possible to translate the product name in CRM ?

I can translate the Product Family, the Unit of Measure Family, but what about the product name?

Greetings,

Jungnickel

    go to Administration -> Customisation -> Translations and search for the caption code Prod_Name and then you can change the translation.

    Hello,

    hm i can only change the translation for the column name "Prod_Name". What I want to know is, the translation from each product i have. An example:

    The default language is US:

    Prod_code Prod_name
    1234 Bike

    I want also to write quotes for Bikes to Germany, so the Translation of the Product should be:

    Prod_code Prod_name
    1234 Fahrrad

    Is this possible?

    Sorry, I thought you just wanted to change the word Product Name, not the actual different products.

    It doesn't look as though you can translate individual product names even though there is an entry created in the Custom_Captions table, you can see your products if you search for NewProductList for the caption family. Even if you change the translation the product remains the same as the original name. I tested this by creating a new product and then edited the translations. On the demo environment my new product was the only one listed, non of the demo products were listed. I even changed the French translation and logged on as a French user but the product was still listed as the original name.

    Hej,

    thanks for the information. I also tried the same procedure and i still have the original name and not the translation.

    The procedure was (with the Demo-DB from CRM):

    -go to Administration-->Data Management-->Products-->New

    --create an article with the admin account (language German) :

    ---product_code: 1234

    ---product_name: Deutschland

    ---under Pricing : Default put in a price for each currency

    ---Save

    -go to Administration-->Customization-->Translation

    --search the Caption Family: NewProductList

    --find the product Deutschland ! --> remember the Caption Code (in my case it was 11)

    --click on the caption code an change the translation for US-English into:

    ---Germany--> Save

    -go to Main Menu and create an order (EUR) for a company with the product_code 1234

    --it appears Deutschland

    --save the order

    -go to Administration --> Users and change the language for the admin account into US-English

    log off

    login again

    -go to Main Menu and create an order (USD) for the same company with the product_code 1234

    -- if i search for the product_code 1234 it appears Deutschland

    -->! the translation don't appears !

    -go to Administration-->Customization-->Translation

    --search the Caption Family: NewProductList and for the caption code of the product (in my case it was 11)

    -->the translation still exists, but i cant see it in the fronted!

    any idea's?

    Also in CRM 7.2 and 7.3 its not possible to show the prod_name in different languages.

    Is there any way to use it with the mail merge function to a Wordfile so the customer can read the name of the product in his language?

    If you look at a field such as oppo_product (where it is displayed in the interface). This supports translation of the product. BUT this is because the field type for oppo_product is a 'selection'. There is a fixed and finite number of options available in the selection list.

    The products you are referencing are drawn from the 'NewProduct' table. When you look up to a product, that is the name that is drawn down from the data. The design philosophy of the fields assumes that you are going to have a potentially open ended, or very large number of products.

    Hi Jeff,

    i understand the design philosophy, that's why i'm asking for it. What is the way from CRM to get the products translated?

    We have 12 different languages and all the User want first do see the product in his language and also make offers to the clients where the products are translated. At the moment we have a workaround with an vba in Word, where we can read the translations from the Sage Office Line DB and replace it in the Wordfile.

    We could create for each language of a product a different product number (12345de, 12345fr,12345en, etc ), but this can't be the right way in CRM.

    We want to use only html templates in CRM, but at the moment we cant because we need the article translated.
