Tracking Opportunities That Are Transferred

Hi all,

The company I work for is looking to utilize Sage CRM for tracking sale referrals. They way they want to do this is for the referral to be first inputted as an opportunity against the refferer and then transfer the opportunity to the person/company entity that will be making a purchase.

To see if this is doable, I created an opportunity in Test Company 1 and then transferred it to Test Company 2. The opportunity ID has stayed the same and I can see two separate OppoProgressID but I can only see Test Company 2 on the opportunity and no mention of Test Company 1. Is there an in-built method to track referrals such as these within CRM? I'm sure there must be a way to do this intelligently (and reportable) so if the solution is something to buy, that's ok too.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

    Hi Paul,

    I would come at this by creating a custom Company field (e.g. Referred To) to so the situation would be;

    Potential Customer gets in contact and so the opportunity is created against the prospect/customer. But if it then ends up being referred to populate the custom field with where it has gone to.

    Or if you really want, you already have the opportunity 'jumping' companies, so use the new custom field to record 'referred from' so you historically can show who had it before.

    It's a bit of a twisted way of doing it, but I see your problem.  Some things spring to mind that might help.  You could add a workflow action to change the company name so that it will then be tracked.  Or you could potentially use Leads to record the initial referrer.  As with most things in CRM the right solution will depend on how you want to get the information back out again.
