E-Mail merge with nested table?

I know it's possible to have a nested table in eg a merge to a pdf using a Word document template.

Is it possible to do the same when doing a mass-email merge?

Or alternatively, is it possible to attach merged pdf documents to a mass email (the pdfs will need to be specific to the recipients, a bit like sending a batch of quotations)?

Both aren't possible as far as I am aware.

I have implemented nested mail merge by amending the relevant view to include a field that contains HTML representing all children records (implemented in a scalar function).

Hi Paul

The only thing I can think of that could work here is using some 3rd party product like Draycir's Spindle. This can email out and dynamically attach documents to it so long the path to the files are predictable (e.g. \quotes\#AccoutNo#)

Thanks John and Matthew. Both good ideas. I'll have a go at John's 'all the detail lines in one field' approach first as I don't think the customer has Spindle (yet).
